mankind is my business
we believe we can lift society by strengthening families
by empowering women
Many of our programs focus on empowering women and girls because studies have consistently demonstrated the impact of women’s social capital and the incredible return on investment in girls. By giving girls equal access to education, safety and medical attention, entire communities are improved. According to the United Nations Development Programme, “Women’s empowerment helps raise economic productivity and reduces infant mortality. It contributes to improved health and nutrition. It increases the chances of education for the next generation.” We believe empowering women and girls is one of the foundational keys in creating strong families.
by protecting children
Protecting children is an essential part of building strong families, and this requires more than providing the basic necessities of food, shelter, and safety. We must also invest in their early development. Dedicated early child development reduces health inequalities, increases brain growth, and helps to develop a critical foundation of skills. The “Social Determinants of Health Report” by the WHO advises, “Recognising the role of early childhood development and education offers huge potential… It provides a strong imperative for action early in life, and to act now. Inaction has detrimental effects that can last a lifetime”.
by increasing opportunity
Opportunity is a key component of economic and social mobility, which is vital to strong families. According to Aparna Mather, “Improving mobility and reducing poverty requires addressing the challenges of single parenthood, particularly teenage pregnancies; improving the human capital of disadvantaged children; and encouraging labor force participation for both men and women...Strengthening the family is the key to opportunity.”
by advocating for families
Advocating for families ensures equal human rights, grows economies, develops societies, and reduces discrimination. According to the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs, “The family constitutes the basic unit of society and therefore warrants special attention. Hence, the widest possible protection and assistance should be accorded to families so that they may fully assume their responsibilities within the community, pursuant to the provisions of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the International Covenants on Human Rights, the Declaration on Social Progress and Development; and the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women.”
